Idea Exchange Kit: Resources and Links

According to Matt Copeland, from LearnNC.org, the Socratic Method, "values the knowledge and understanding already present" in the participants.  Socratic dialogue helps us, "examine premonitions and beliefs" to create an "equitable learning community." In IdeaExchanges, we work together to construct meaning - we come to shared understanding of an issue, problem or idea - which will help those involved create innovative and meaningful solutions.

Topics include prompts to practice the IdeaExchange process and a list of common discussion topics for schools.

This interactive decision tree will help you decide if your topic is the best fit for an Idea Exchange.

Choosing the topic is the first step. Here you can find ideas for texts to use for rich and meaningful discussions.

Each group can adapt and create their own IdeaExchange guidelines. Here are some suggestions.

Idea Exchanges always leave participants wanting more. Click for ideas for next steps.
